Build Effective Titles & Meta Tags for Every webpage
Let’s ignore I even used the word, Meta Tag. I am not a fan of geek speak. Let’s just take the mystery out of getting found on the web.
First, when you make a website, you’re probably focused on “where” it will live within the overall structure of your site.
Second, The content should stand on its own. Remember, every individual page will have its own “search results.” Take control of how people see each individual page of your site.
URL:
Don’t forget the name of the webpage should also provide a clue to the information they will soon find. The overall name of the page should be descriptive and not just “products.” Give a quick description of your products in the “name” of the actual page. example: ergonomic_kitchen_tools.html
Website Headline:
This will be your “page title.” Great page titles Inspire, offer advice & create intrigue. Include your unique selling points & trigger phrases. Use less than 60 characters.
Description:
This will be your metatag. Search Engines may use this info to explain what is on this webpage. Let’s separate this into two distinct parts. First, “Describe the Intent” of the info on this page & only include what the reader will find. No need to be deceptive & include info, not on this specific webpage. Remember, Use less than 160 characters total.
Intent:
This will be the second sentence that will conclude the description/metatag of your site. Begin with phrases like *How To… *Learn If… *Imagine a… *Find… Set the scene by explaining the answers the reader will find about their “problem phrase.” Tantalize your reader with a personal perspective and include a call-to-action phrase to better explain the intent of the information. Keep the length of Intent + Description to less than 160 characters.
